On May 5th, The Girl Tyler team got to photograph AND film Jessica & Matt’s awesome wedding day, complete with a Harlem Shake and chock full of amazing personal, DIY touches! After 8 years together, these high school sweethearts decided to tie the knot at the rustic and beautiful venue, Amber Grove in Moseley, VA. They may not have had long to plan (less than 6 months!!!) but with help from family and friends, Jessica & Matt fashioned a wedding day experience that was truly one of a kind. Jessica poured over details, creating each one of their unique and colorful centerpieces by collecting glass and other elements from antique and thrift stores. Their escort card display was also handmade, with tiny leaves bearing guest names attached to branches. They managed to put together a slideshow of photos and videos from throughout their relationship, which played on a projector before their ceremony. Their friends and family got to laugh and cry as they watched Matt ask Jessica to prom, their holiday celebrations (and serenades) and these two fall in love all over their years together. Heck, there was even a choreographed a wedding party entrance into the reception and a surprise Harlem Shake planned for their guests, complete with more costumes than you can imagine. It was definitely one awesome wedding day, bubbling over with personality, a whole lotta energy and of course love. Many thanks to Jessica & Matt for making The Girl Tyler team a little part of something so special – we had a blast with you two and won’t soon forget it!

At The Girl Tyler, we’re pretty darn passionate about helping small businesses showcase and communicate their awesomeness. Let us be your camp counselors and embrace the coming summer weather as the perfect time to learn something, try out a new sport and have fun with your business.

We’re excited! We have so many stories to tell, advice to give, and lessons still to learn ourselves!

Then at the beginning of 2013, less than a year after opening their doors, Liz delivered the news that they were opening a new full service salon in April! We were totally stoked for them and thrilled to be the only team they’d trust to brand this new branch of their business. Excitedly, we delved into their vision for Veil Studios. We wanted to know everything from decor and flooring to client experience and overall mission. Liz told me she hoped the new salon would expand the empowerment reach of their existing business–but for every woman, not just brides. They wanted to create a comfortable and inviting environment for clients with mason jars for holding hair tools, vintage inspired curtains, and worn wood floors. Their clients would have fun, feel relaxed and leave refreshed and, most importantly, confident.

The conversation evolved into an inspiration board full of images of that helped define their brand – fonts, colors, textures and lots of pictures of Massachusetts beach life. Liz hails from the North and her love for the Cape Cod aesthetic was a big influence, especially when paired with the salon’s oceanfront location. The color palette was pulled from the various pattern elements that started becoming a part of the brand – a buttery yellow ticking fabric, worn gray wood planks along with images featuring seafoam green, teal and pop of Cape Cod red. This inspiration board also served as a guide to selecting fonts, designing logo elements and even developing their website (more about that tomorrow)!

From there we created the Veil Studios logo and branding guide, which includes the logo and its variations, color palette, patterns and textures, and fonts (see abbreviated version above). The logo itself features an illustration of a mason jar with comb, vintage hair scissors and a bobby pin. It’s paired with a non-fussy serif font that relays classic feel without being too traditional. All the logo elements were then distressed to give them that worn-in beach inspired feel.

After walking into the salon during their grand opening the other week, we’re pretty sure we had branding success!

Well apparently what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas… but today we’re excited about it! About a month ago, some of our paper goods took a trip out west for Orchestrated Stylized Shoot’s Feather & Stone event at Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, NV during WPPI (big annual photography conference). Today the style shoot is being featured on Something Turquoise, including the custom invitations and menus we created for it.

For this shoot, we wanted to really get inspired by the southwest and its Native American roots. Delving into the textiles and materials found in that area, we incorporated “sinew” type string, turquoise stones and paper that had a beautiful handmade texture and nature fiber look. Then to add a pop of modern we mixed in fun fonts, bright coral envelopes and geometric patterns. Heck, we were so excited about the final suite that we made sure each photographer and participating vendor went home with one of their own to keep as a memento from the shoot!

When Hollie contacted us, she had a logo dilemma; she had one created that she liked but was still not quite perfect. She knew she wanted to keep the ribbon Fleur-de-lis element and the script font, but it needed some adjustments, cleaning up and needed it to be recreated in the proper formats. I took the existing art, redesigned it (in vector of course), provided new layout options with a fresh font or two and an updated pretty pink color palette. You can see the previous and the finished new logo above.

From there, we took her new look and applied it’s style to both her website and Facebook Fan page to help keep her branding consistent. We’re pretty excited about the end result – right down to the ribbon inspired tabs for Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter – and can’t wait for our next project with her (and her beautiful branding)!
